The elections that led to this victory took place on May 23, 2025, in Alandroal, during the extraordinary General Assembly of AMPV – the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities, which brought together 71 member municipalities. Competing for the distinction were the Algarve region, represented by six municipalities, and the Azores, with eight municipalities from three islands. The Baixo Alentejo candidacy received 42 votes and will be officially presented to Members of the European Parliament.
The winning application was promoted by the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo, CIMBAL – the Intermunicipal Community of Baixo Alentejo, and the 13 municipalities that make up this intermunicipal community: Aljustrel, Almodôvar, Alvito, Barrancos, Beja, Castro Verde, Cuba, Ferreira do Alentejo, Mértola, Moura, Ourique, Serpa, and Vidigueira.
