The elections that dictated this victory took place on May 23, 2025, in Alandroal, during the extraordinary General Assembly of AMPV - Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities, which counted on the participation of 71 associated municipalities. In the race for the distinction were the Algarve Region, represented by six municipalities, and the Azores, with eight municipalities from three islands. The Baixo Alentejo candidacy received 42 votes and will be officially presented to MEPs in the European Parliament.
The winning application was promoted by the Regional Entity of Tourism of Alentejo, by CIMBAL - Intermunicipal Community of Baixo Alentejo, and by the 13 municipalities that make up this intermunicipal community: Aljustrel, Almodôvar, Alvito, Barrancos, Beja, Castro Verde, Cuba, Ferreira do Alentejo, Mértola, Moura, Ourique, Serpa and Vidigueira.
