The problem of rural fires is recurrent in our current times and, also, a topic of debate in 8thInternational Wildland Fire Conference, from May 16 to 19, 2023, at Port Customs
Every year, worldwide, we are fatigued by uncontrolled fires, with increasingly serious consequences. Whether thinking about the impact or loss of biodiversity of ecosystems, human capital, economic value or carbon emissions, a deep and global reflection is needed on how these disasters are managed.
With the flip-flop of AGIF -Agency for Integrated Rural Fire Management - e do International Liaison Committee (ILC), this 8th edition brought together experts, researchers, international decision makers and other stakeholders, over four days, to constitute the Landscape Fire Governance Framework, a rural fire management model - which was presented at the end of the event. The Secretary-General of the United Nations - António Guterres - the Vice-President of the European Commission - Frans Timmermans - and the President of the Portuguese Republic - Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa - participated in the meeting via video.
At the same time, other key moments marked the passage of the Conference undefeated: the Cocktail and Dinner of the Conference took place on the 18th, at the Palácio da Bolsa; the Technical Visit to REN - Parque Serras do Porto; and the other networking events, for example the visit to WOW - World of Wine.
