Em 2024, Cascais celebrated the power of Volunteering and the value of solidarity
A January 29, 2024, Cascais officially took on the responsibility of being the first Portuguese Volunteer Capital, a title designated by Portuguese Confederation of Volunteering (CPV).This award provided a unique opportunity for the great Volunteer family to share experiences, recognize the work done and celebrate the achievements achieved. Among the most striking moments stand out:
·The Volunteer Festival
In our days May 24 and 25, 2024, the Volunteer Festival took place, framed in the celebration of a very significant 2024 for the community: “This past year we had more than 1.700.000 volunteer hours. If we consider, for example, 10 euros for each hour of Volunteering, we are talking about more than 17 million euros induced in the social economy of the municipality, with the work of all these people,” said Nuno Piteira Lopes, vice-president of the Cascais City Council.

·The Intermunicipal Volunteer Meeting
A November 7 and 8, 2024, Cascais was the stage for the X Intermunicipal Volunteer Meeting, bringing together 31 municipalities and about 200 participants under the theme “Volunteering: The Next Generations.” This event aimed to discuss and deepen the challenges and opportunities of volunteering renewal, with special attention to attracting new generations.

·The Closing Ceremony
A December 5, 2024, Cascais ended this walk in a remarkable way at the Mercado da Vila. The ceremony coincided with the International Volunteer Day and included a tribute to the 15 years of the “Neighborhood Tutors” program, an initiative of great value for the municipality.
